Tour description

1. Khertvisi - a castle of middle ages in the village Khertvisi, (Javakheti, South Georgia), at the confluence of the river Paravani and Mtkvari, on a high cliff mountain (Aspindza Municipiality). The functioning castle of Khertvisi has been in existence throughout the whole feudal era. Since 2007 Khertvisi castle has been enrolled in the UNESCO world heritage draft list together with Vardzia.

2. Vardzia Monastery Com - Vardzia is a cave monastery of the XII-XIII centuries. The monument of Georgia architectural culture is located in remote South-West in historical Meskheti. The monastery complex was basically created in the years 1156-1203. The settlement was blessed in 1185, in the period of the reign of King Tamar (1184-1213). The royal monastery would play an enormous role in political and cultural life of the country.

3. "Sapara" Monastery 

4. Rabati - is located in Akhaltsikhe on the left bank of the river Potskhovi. Was built not later than the IX century. Was the residence of Samtskhe Atabags (Lords) the Jakelis. In the XII-XIII centuries the castle was restored and extended. The toponym “Akhaltsikhe” (New Castle) appears exactly at the time.
