Mtskheta-Tbilisi

A trip to Mtskheta is like a time travel. The city was founded in the first century BC. e., this is the very first capital of Georgia - after it the title was taken by Tbilisi. But Mtskheta remained the spiritual heart of the country: it was here that Christianity was first adopted, back in 327 AD e. By modern standards, this is not even a city, rather, a big village, but the former greatness, and most importantly - everyone here will feel the spirit of the times, even just walking along the streets. Mtskheta is popular among tourists from all over the world, because the Georgian authorities are investing money in the restoration of extant monuments. In the city itself there are not many, essentially three main ones: the Jvari temple and the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral.

We begin our tour of the Old Town with the Metekhi church (XIII century), where the grave of the Armenian martyr Saint Shushaniki is located. The temple is located on a cliff above the Kura River and from here you can enjoy a wonderful view of Tbilisi, from where the history of Tbilisi begins and offers a beautiful view of the old city.

After we will visit the Synagogue - traditionally painted with colorful ornaments. Next, a tour of the Sioni Cathedral, where valuable relics are stored. After a walk along the transparent bridge of the World, which has become unique. The Anchiskhati Church, however, will impress you with its antiquity; it is the oldest church of the surviving churches of Tbilisi.

After we climb to the statue of Mother of Georgia, bypassing the citadel of Narikal, we walk along the slope of the mountain to the sulfur baths and enjoy views of the Old Town.

We will visit the Sololaki district, where we have houses of the second half of the 19th, beginning of the 20th centuries, with beautiful front entrances, carved balconies, as well as a stained glass house. Tchaikovsky, Yesenin, Lermontov, Nicholas II, the brothers Siemens and others lived in this area. We can also visit the only chocolate museum in Georgia in the same place and you will never drink coffee and cheese like that there. We can see the house on Rustaveli Avenue, which was built by wine !, as well as the house in which wine was flowing in the fountain :)
