Additional Information

Tamar the Great (c. 1160 – 18 January 1213) reigned as the Queen of Georgia from 1184 to 1213, presiding over the apex of the Georgian Golden Age. A member of the Bagrationi dynasty, her position as the first woman to rule Georgia in her own right was emphasized by the title mepe ("king"), afforded to Tamar in the medieval Georgian sources.
Tamar's association with the period of political and military successes and cultural achievements, combined with her role as a female ruler, has led to her idealization and romanticization in Georgian arts and historical memory. She remains an important symbol in Georgian popular culture and has been canonized by the Georgian Orthodox Church as the Holy Righteous Queen Tamar, with her feast day commemorated on 14 May.
So that day we celebrate in the the Betania Monastery of the Nativity of the Mother of God. It is a remarkable piece of architecture of the "Golden Age" of the Kingdom of Georgia, at the turn of the 11th and 12th centuries, and is notable for its wall paintings which include a group portrait of the contemporary Georgian monarchs.
Here is the the fresco of Queen Tamar, which one is remained today from five frescoes of Tamar. The royal panel includes George IV Lasha (Tamar' son) and George III (Tamar's father, from left to right).

1. Betania Monastery of the Nativity of the Mother of God. It dates to the 12th-13th century.
2. Tsveri st. George church, located one the small hill, surrounded by the great mountains, forests, wonderful views on the nearby villages and Tbilisi.
3. Udzo st. George church, located one the Udzo mountain, 1420 MASL. Wonderful mountain and forest views and amazing green way to the monastery surrounded by trees. According to the legend, this temple built the man, who had no child. After that, God gave him the child.
4. Kojori Fortress, 11th century, also known as Agarata Fortress. It defended the main road from south. "Agarani Fortress" was a summer residence of Georgian kings and according to one of the versions, Queen Tamar died there. From here, there are also amazing panoramic views around.
